In early March, hoping for an early Spring, we lifted the second story walls into place with a rented gradall. Previously, during disassembly, we had amputated the roofline cornice from the walls to allow our wide loads to meet safe road standards. It was now time to rebuild, so we "married" the cornice and walls together by sistering all of the 2x5 exterior framing. Phillips House Update April 2006 The rain finally stopped in mid-April and we were able to get long, full days of work accomplished. We finished framing the second story interior walls, placed the top plates, installed shearwall, and installed all necessary hardware for California earthquake code work. On April 28th new roof trusses arrived giving us a huge new project to undertake during the month of May. Phillips House Update May 2006 California earthquake codes required us to install a new truss roof. The trusses were manufactured by a local lumber company. at a cost of $5,900.00. The roof is a very complicated multi hipped roof with many valleys. By mid May we were still building the roof due to some truss pieces which were either missing or constructed improperly. After roof framing was completed we sheathed the roof and began construction of the tower. With the project so far behind due to the long wet winter, we began to get bids for heating, electrical, drywall, and finish roofing. |
